March Theme Summary: Growth & Nutrition

March at HighPointe is all about Growth & Nutrition—a month dedicated to helping our adults understand how the choices they make each day can support their physical, emotional, and overall quality of life. As we welcome the first day of spring, explore National Nutrition Month, and celebrate meaningful days like St. Patrick’s Day, Daylight Savings Time, and World Down Syndrome Day, we’ll focus on nurturing healthy habits that help every individual grow in their own way.
Throughout the month, clients will learn how nutrition, sleep, movement, and daily routines affect their energy, mood, independence, and well-being. Lessons and activities will emphasize that everyone has the ability to make choices—using the communication method that works best for them, whether that’s eye gaze, gestures, vocalizations, or other supports.
We will explore important topics such as:
  • Understanding allergies and how foods can help or harm the body
  • Learning about anti-inflammatory foods versus foods that cause inflammation
  • Practicing reading nutrition labels, counting calories, and planning a day's energy intake
  • Developing healthier habits in eating, rest, and activity
  • Recognizing how personal control and self-advocacy contribute to well-being
