The Exceptional Expeditions Journey 

More Than an Outdoor Program 

We provide immersive outdoor experiences that help participants develop:

Through a progressive series of hiking, camping, and wilderness experiences, participants develop practical outdoor skills while building confidence, resilience, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and independence.

With trained guides and a supportive environment, we help each participant discover new strengths and experience the excitement of adventure.

Exceptional Expeditions is intentionally designed to provide a supportive, personalized outdoor experience for every participant.
 
Each session includes 5–7 participants and 3–4 trained guides, allowing our team to provide individualized support while encouraging participants to build confidence, connect with their peers, and take on new challenges.

Our 5-phase journey gradually introduces participants to outdoor skills and experiences, building knowledge and confidence along the way. As participants progress through each phase, they have opportunities to take on increasingly independent adventures while developing the skills needed to safely explore, problem-solve, work as a team, and discover their own potential.  

1. Outdoor Orientation 

Start with the essentials

Participants begin their journey at the HighPointe Centers campus, where they become familiar with outdoor equipment, learn basic gear skills, and practice properly fitting and preparing a backpack.

2. Basecamp Bootcamp

Build confidence in the outdoors

Participants take part in their first overnight outdoor experience at HighPointe's 200-acre private cabin property. This experience introduces participants to camping, working as a team, and navigating an overnight adventure in a supportive environment. 

3. Summit Hike

Take it to the trail

Participants put their growing skills into action during a full-day guided mountain hike. Each participant has the opportunity to explore trails and mountains that match their interests and abilities while learning about trail safety, weather awareness, navigation, and proper backpack use. 

4. Backcountry Trip

Experience the adventure

Participants take on a multi-night tent camping experience and put their outdoor skills to work. With guidance from trained leaders, they learn practical backcountry skills such as setting up camp, accessing and managing water, safely navigating the outdoors, and understanding wildlife awareness. 

5. Trip Planning

Plan your own adventure

The journey culminates with participants creating a personalized multi-day backpacking plan. With support from their guides, each participant develops a mapped route, considers potential risks, and creates a gear strategy for their adventure.
